I've got a dirty little secret

Hey, Patrick here.

My client Derrick runs a small consulting company.

He was stuck at a plateau with client acquisition.
Cold email is 90% of his growth stack…no ads, no events, no SDRs.

One Wednesday I was on a coaching call with him.

We were discussing his TAM (total addressable market)
…and how he needed to scale up volume to hit his goals.

Derrick was ready to “try another channel” to scale up.

Which is a huge risk, with learning curves, new costs, time commitment, and of course…will it work?!

1. When a “Verified” List Isn’t Enough

The problem was, he was using tools like Apollo & ZoomInfo for list building.
The tools themselves weren’t the problem, limited verified data was.

Example:

We ran an Apollo search and 13,000 contacts were verified out of 22,000.
Which means we’re missing 9,000 leads just from one search!

So, like any motivated business person we naturally wanted to reach out to the 9,000 and access more TAM to hit goals.

2. The Clay Cost Crunch

So, we decided to give Clay a shot with waterfall email finders.

We used an IYKYK Apollo export and imported into Clay.

But when Darren saw how few emails he got, for the price, he wasn’t just shocked.
He was pissed off.

For $149/mo he got only 1247 emails, $0.12 each.
Then of course some weren’t valid.
Then, some bounced.
Ouch. But part of the game.

Clay is absolutely a powerful tool BUT:
→ It's overkill for SMBs with no GTM team.
→ It's very complicated to figure out.
→ And it's crazy expensive.
→ Which limits outreach volume.

3. Not an Isolated Incident

That same week I met with 7 other founders, owners, sales directors, etc.

And found they had a similar issue to Derrick.

Not accessing all of their TAM, and 4 of the 7 were “dabbling with Clay”.

All 4 said it’s just too expensive and complicated.
(and if there was a cheaper solution they’d use it)

4. Enough is Enough

That’s when I decided this was a real problem for SMBs (and even bigger companies).

So we took matters into our own hands and built EnrichEngine inside of LeadEngine.ai.

And so far, Derrick has booked 19 sales meeting with that list.
