Stop Cold Email Cancer In Its Tracks
How to eliminate cancerous leads from campaigns.

I was helping a client figure out what was wrong with their cold email campaigns. They stopped working.
I asked him what changed.
He said, nothing, except we started targeting some “new” personas.
As a cold email Dr., I ran some lab tests on their email list and found cancer.
Cold email campaigns don’t have long to live with this kind of data.
No wonder they were suffering from:
→ high bounce rates
→ high sp*m complaints
→ constant deliverability issues,
→ and soul sucking replies like "This is not relevant take me off your list!".
But the there’s some good news.
There's a cure if a strict regime is followed.
Here's the steps:
→ 22.27% of the bad leads can be removed with 99.7% confidence using basic validation.
→ 43.88% of the bad leads can be removed with 87% confidence using catch-all scoring.
→ 33.85% of the bad leads can be removed with 81% confidence using AI Lead Scoring.
And just like that...
The cold email campaigns are healthy as can be.
And now, the campaigns can live up to their full potential.

AI Lead Scoring
You build a list from a database like Apollo, Seamless, ZoomInfo, etc.
Great database tools.
But no one is perfect and they rely on user input for list quality.

AI Catch-All Scoring
Peoples eyes glaze over when I tell them about this, so I’ll try to keep it brief and understandable.
“Catch-all” means an email server can “Receive all incoming mail”.
About 50% of email addresses are classified this way.
And because of this classification they can’t be validated with basic email validation (below).
Here’s where it gets bad for cold email:
Most of your email bounces come from Catch-all emails.
When your bounce rate is continuously high, it looks suspicious to email providers.
And it’s easy to shadow ban your accounts and domains.
The solution is to use what’s called AI Catch-all scoring.

Again, it’s 1-click to activate it, but it can keep your bounce rates under 6-7% on catch-all addresses.
Which is higher than what you want for VALID emails.
But it’s more acceptable for Catch-all emails since a lot of Catch-all emails are setup by Custom Email Servers outside of the Microsoft/Google network.
Basic Email Validation
The most basic form of email validation is a basic validation test. Yet, there’s some problems many face.

→ Data Aging
